As the most populous democratic nation in the world, India’s success not only benefits the people of India, but also contributes to the development of the world as a whole.
I believe that the age-old Indian traditions of not doing harm – non-violence backed by compassion, are not only relevant but essential in today’s world. I also believe that these principles can be easily combined with education for the wider benefit of modern humanity. Whenever I have the opportunity to do so, I regularly commend India for its strong democracy, its deep-rooted religious pluralism and its remarkable harmony and stability.
